The bedtime stories are a ritual which is followed generation to generation to prepare a child to sleep. When there were no books available as bedtime stories, the parent or the guardian used to create their own stories which would inspire the child to prepare for the life’s events. Bedtime stories were a powerful medium which helped the child to build up a character helping him/her to face the real world.

Bedtime stories can help imbibe the good manners and habits; it plays an important role in the child’s life and it has been proved by the researchers. The researchers have discovered that bedtime stories nourish the child to enhance his vision, ideas and reading ability. It is very important how the bedtime stories are read or narrated to a child. The well written, narrated and illustrated children book can enhance the child’s interest in the story and the books and it will inculcate a habit of reading information from any time of books. The bedtime stories include many different characters such as animals, birds, etc. and if the reader expresses and conveys these characters by hand signs and symbolic actions, along with the suitable expressions, it can help the child get engrossed in the story, and can help these different characters/animals very easily. It also develops their vocabulary as well as the pronunciation skills by observing the storytellers. Bedtime stories have also been able to help parents, guardians or grandparents to develop a strong bond with their children and grandchildren. Continue reading Children and bedtime stories

Kalpart Illustrations Wins Reader’s Favorite Award-2014

Children book Illustration AwardReader’s Favorite Illustrations award for 2014 received by My Fingerpaint Masterpiece, illustrated by Kalpart. Written by Sherrill S. Cannon.

New this year is the the Readers’ Favorite Illustration Award recognizes books with quality illustrations. Entries are judged by Mark Wayne Adams, a multiple award-winning illustrator who is a former Disney artist and is currently the CEO of an illustration and publishing company and the president of the Florida Authors and Publishers Association.

The title – My Fingerpaint Masterpiece was reviewed by Bil Howard at Readers’ Favorite for Illustrations as below.
Beauty certainly is in the eye of the beholder and nothing illustrates that truth better than My Fingerpaint Masterpiece written by Sherrill S. Cannon and illustrated by Kalpart. When a child is interrupted from a fingerpainting of his dog while at school, it is the start of a chain of events that leads one to wonder exactly how people determine what art becomes a masterpiece. On the way home, the child’s painting is blown out of his hands and lands in an art shop. It is then accidentally entered into an art contest and after the judges turn it in every direction, they decide that it is the winning entry. Disgusted with the outcome and the way that everyone is attempting to discover the deep meaning of his painting, the child tries to get everyone’s attention, but no one will believe him.

Sherrill S. Cannon and Kalpart have created a delightful story that actually gets right to the heart of what I think about some of the “masterpieces” that I have seen. My Fingerpaint Masterpiece expresses a truth about abstract art that few would ever admit. Splash several different colors on a canvas and anyone who is an “official critic” with enough imagination to make it into something will determine that it is a masterpiece. The colorful interpretation of the story by the illustrator of this story far exceeds many of the “masterpieces” in the modern art world in my opinion. Funny, colorful and brilliant, My Fingerpaint Masterpiece will put a satisfied smile on your face as you consider how silly some people can be about art.
